First, I met with a friend of mine whom I hadn't seen in a couple of years. It was so great to see her and catch up with her before the show started.
The opening act was Blake Mills. He was fantastic! The song set he chose to sing was a little mellow for people to stop their conversations and listen to, but they were great songs nonetheless. They seemed like the kind of songs you'd want for a day of relaxation. Have a listen here: http://www.blakemillsonline.com/
The most memorable part of Blake Mills' set was his closing song, Sleepwalk. I love this song! Mills and the accompanying musicians played it beautifully!

While waiting for Fiona Apple to start her set, I was reminiscing about how I was first introduced to her music. I remember I was in my jazz dance class at Spotlight Dance Centre doing some stretches. A couple of Fiona Apple's songs came on, which at the time I didn't recognize. While doing these stretches, I began singing along and made a point of remembering some of the lyrics to help me find the artist and album. The two songs that were played that day were Fast As You Can and To Your Love. I've loved Fiona Apple's music since then!
Fast forward many years. I bought tickets to her Toronto show as soon as I could. I am so glad that I did. She sounds amazing live! It's so refreshing to go to a live concert and have the singer sound as good as they do on the record. It didn't even matter that I couldn't always see her on the stage from where I was standing, her presence and her talents filled the room.
It was a wonderful experience!
