A New Hairstyle for a Good Cause

I decided, since my hair was so long (it was almost down to my butt), it was time to get it cut.
Before measuring my hair for donation.
Because of the length of my hair, I decided that I would donate it. I did some research into the many organizations that accept hair donations, and chose Angel Hair for Kids. This organization "is a program of A Child’s Voice Foundation™ that provides wigs and hair loss solutions to financially disadvantaged children in Canada who have lost their hair due to a medical condition or treatment". Part of what appealed to me is that this organization takes the time and care to set up a personal appointment with a salon that specializes in wigs and hair loss for each recipient. The experts at these salons help the child and their family through the process of selecting a wig or hair loss solution, and works with them to make it truly personal to them.

After having chosen the organization to which to make my hair donation, it was time to select a salon. Through various google searches, I stumbled upon the website http://www.salonspaonline.ca/-ANGEL-HAIR-FOR-KIDS. Through this website, I was able to narrow down my search for a salon that supported the organization I had chosen, and that was in my city. I chose Lift Salon and Spa because of their location. Little did I know that I was in for a treat!

I was fortunate to have been able to make my appointment the day of. When I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the receptionist. She kindly took my coat and gave me a full tour of the salon. After the tour, she offered me coffee, tea, or wine! I chose to have a tea from their diverse selection (it appeared they had a couple dozen different flavors of tea!). During the tour I learned that they also recycle the cut hair through Green Circle Salons. Click on the link to learn more about their mission, and to find a green salon near you!

My hairstylist was Taca Ozawa. I could not have asked for a better stylist for this event. He was so thorough in making sure that the length of hair for donation met the requirements. He offered me the opportunity to make the first cut, which I declined. In hindsight, I probably should have said yes because it would have been cool to say that I did that. Oh, well. Lesson learned for next time! In the end, I donated 13" of hair from the back and 11" from the front!

After making the cuts for donation.
After the first cuts, it was off to get my hair shampooed and conditioned. Taca gave me the best head massage I have ever had at a hair salon! It was amazing and so relaxing. He worked quietly, quickly and efficiently. Throughout the transformation process I learned that he also does make-up, he's worked for Fashion Week Toronto and Fashion Week Paris. I was in very good hands. After about an hour or so of cutting and styling, he was done!

The new style!
It was such a pleasure to have gone to Lift Salon and Spa. They took care of me from start to finish. One of the benefits of having chosen this salon for my hair donation is that they took care of sending it to Angel Hair for Kids! I would definitely recommend going to this salon. I will certainly be going back, though I may not be able to get Taca again as he mentioned that he had received a job offer in New York!

Taca and I.
I would love hear about your hair transformations and experiences. Have you or would you donate your hair?

Until next time,
Tif xo

Happy New Year 2015

Happy 2015!

I am pretty excited for the year to come! I have goals/resolutions to work toward, I am participating in a number of productions, and there are adventures planned or in the works. I am ready for the journey of 2015!

Here is what I am looking forward to so far in 2015 (in no particular order):

  • Performing in a secret show
  • Going to New York City for the first time
  • Performing at Carnegie Hall with newchoir
  • Performing in some professional dance shows
  • Moving to British Columbia
I anticipate challenges ahead, particularly since I will be moving across provinces, but I look forward to seeing myself grow through them.

Wishing everyone a healthy, prosperous year ahead.

Until next time!
