The Start of Self-Improvement

As my 30th birthday approaches (in November), I am becoming more and more aware of the lifestyle choices that I am making. Most of them pertain to my overall health and wellness. Recently I have been more concerned about being a healthier, happier person. I am actively working towards making changes that will carry me through for decades.

A couple of days ago, as I was scrolling through my news feed on facebook, I stumbled upon    the post "20 Things to Do When You're 30 That Will Make Life Better at 50". It resonated with me. I am in the mindset of change, and some of the things listed, I believe, will help to benefit my health and wellness. So, without further ado, I present to you the items on the list that I am currently working towards implementing in my life.

Stop Eating Crap
This is going to be an interesting pursuit. I live a fairly busy life that has me on the go. I am rarely home, and I work in the restaurant industry. I know that these are weak excuses. I know. However, to create the lasting change that I seek is going to take time and discipline, and, most importantly, the desire to change. I am now, more than ever, at a place where I want to change my eating habits.
I picked up the book Eat Pretty by Jolene Hart as my place to start. I am excited to incorporate her suggestions into my life, and to try some of the recipes from the book!

Stop Going Out in the Sun Without Sunblock
Yes. Just yes.

Exercise Regularly
This is one that will require some adjustments and take a lot of discipline. However, now that the weather is warmer, I am walking a lot more. I have been walking to and from work rather than using public transportation, and that takes me approximately an hour each way!
What I would like for my regular exercise regimen is to do yoga for strength and flexibility, and take a few dance classes to keep fit. The dance classes will also help to keep me ready for any auditions that come up.

Start Saving Money
I feel like I have always felt a sense of security in seeing dollars in the bank. A big part of that, I believe, is from the great money-managing skills I observed in my parents, and that they taught me and my sisters.
In recent years, I have been saving a little bit every month. It feels great to know that I have some money in the case that something comes up, and for my future retirement! In the coming years, I hope to be able to increase the amount that I am saving each month.

Don't Delay Pursuing Your Life Goals
I truly believe that it is never too late to pursue something that you've always wanted to do. The hardest step is usually starting. I struggle to find the "right" words for every blog I post, but I just have to start and then it gets written. I can always edit after, or as I go, but something has to be written in order to do that.
I frequently reference my bucket list to see what I can start pursuing immediately, and what will take some time to get to. I am so lucky that I have been able to do some of the things on my bucket list in the past couple of years (most recently was NYC!). I look forward to continuing to cross off some of those items in the months and years to come.

Travel as much as possible whenever you can
There are so many places in the world that I would love to see. Refer to my bucket list for the whole list. :)

Keep A Journal
I was way better at writing in a journal when I was younger. I always found that it helped me get my stress out of my body, and helped to clear my head. I still keep a journal, but I write in it so sporadically. I'd like to be writing in it daily. I blame it on the lack of a nightstand.

The above are the first steps towards a healthier, happier version of me. :)

Until next time,
Tif xo
